1785 – Moulton

September 2019

In 1785, Carey became a schoolmaster in Moulton, and his concern for the spread of the Gospel deepened. Then four years later he was appointed full time pastor of Harvey Lane Baptist Church in Leicester. He wrote his missionary manifesto, An Enquiry into the Obligations of Christians to use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens. During one of his sermons he used his now famous phrase, ‘Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God’.
