1802 – Conversion

Martyn felt the futility of pursuing academia when he heard Charles Simeon speaking in Holy Trinity Church, about the good that William Carey had done in India, and then reading the diary of David Brainerd. He resolved to become a missionary himself. So on  October 22, 1803, he was ordained deacon at Ely, and afterwards priest, and served as Simeon’s curate in the neighbouring parish of Lolworth.
