Aldersgate Experience

1738

After difficulties and setbacks in Georgia, Wesley returned to England. He attended a Moravian fellowship meeting in Aldersgate Street, London. He heard a reading of Martin Luther’s preface to the Epistle to the Romans which profoundly moved him. He recalled feeling his ‘heart strangely warmed’; the incident is believed to be the occasion of Wesley’s true conversion.
