Spurgeon was baptised in the River Lark at Isleham Ferry. It was conducted by W.H. Cantlow, a Baptist deacon from Ipswich. ‘I was not ashamed,’ recalled Spurgeon, ‘there and then, to own myself a follower of the Lamb.’
Andrew married Isabella Dickson in 1848. They would have six children together.
Bonar died at his home in Glasgow on 30 December 1892. He was buried at Sighthill Cemetary.
