Education at Oxford University

1628 - 1635

Highly academic, John enrolled at the age of 12, studying Classics, Mathematics, Philosophy, Theology, Hebrew, and Rabbinical Writings. He was awarded a BA in 1632 and an MA in 1635. He began the seven-year course for a Bachelor of Divinty degree, but left Oxford early, disillusioned by the Roman Catholic trends being imposed upon the Church of England by the Archbishop of Canterbury, William Laud.
