The Village Church and Songs in the Night


Graham served as pastor of The Village Church in Western Springs, Illinois, for a year from 1943 to 1944. During this time his friend Torrey Johnson handed over his failing radio program Songs in the Night to Graham. He revived it, inviting popular Christian singer George Beverley Shea to direct it with him, but left it in Shea’s hands in 1944 when he became ill and moved away to recover.
