Florida Bible Institute

1937

At Florida Bible Institute in Temple Terrace, Florida, Billy felt called to the preaching ministry and became convinced that he should be baptised as an adult. He was baptised by the vice-president of the Bible Institute, and then baptised again as a precondition for joining the Southern Baptist Church and receiving ordination there.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1940. While in Florida he met relatives of the then-president of Wheaton College who, upon hearing a good report of his character and preaching gifts, arranged for him to attend Wheaton for an additional Bachelor’s degree.
