Genevan opposition to Calvin collapses

1555

Opposers of Calvin and his reforms in Geneva were known as ‘libertines’. They vied for influence over the civil powers in the city. In 1555 they opposed the mass immigration of French into the city, taking to the streets in a protest involving drink and vandalism. The protesters, led by Ami Perrin, were forced to flee the city.
