Mary Slessor was a missionary in the Calabar region of Nigeria.
As well as sharing the gospel she is remembered for her rescuing of twins that were otherwise condemned at birth through tribal superstition.
In 1916, Amy established a Protestant religious order called the Sisters of the Common Life.
In 1912, Queen Mary recognised Amy's missionary work and helped to fund a hospital in Dohnavur.
The Dohnavur Fellowship added a home for boys, usually the babies of rescued temple prostitutes, in 1918
