Ruth’s death


After a fall in 1974 and subsequent degenerative osteoporosis, then suffering spinal meningitis in 1995, Ruth’s health declined. For her final few years she was wheelchair bound and could no longer accompany Billy in his engagements. In 2007 she contracted pneumonia, and she passed away on 14 June 2007 at the Graham home in Montreat, North Carolina. She was buried on 17 June on the grounds of the newly dedicated Billy Graham Library. The day before her death, Graham released this statement: ‘Ruth is my soul mate and best friend, and I cannot imagine living a single day without her by my side. I am more and more in love with her today than when we first met over 65 years ago as students at Wheaton College.’
