Continuing academic preparation for a life in the church, Calvin studied the traditional subjects of grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, music, geometry and astronomy. Studies began at 5am, mass was heard at 7am and regular debates took place in the afternoons to hone students’ debating skills. They were to be in bed by 9pm.
