Publishes the ‘Ninety-five Theses’

1517

Luther took issue with various abuses he perceived to characterise current clerical practices, such as the sale of indulgences. He is reputed to have nailed the Ninety-five Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. They were translated into German, printed and distributed across Europe by January 1518.
