What is the ‘woke’ agenda?
The concept of ‘woke’ is based on a multifaceted set of shifting political ideas and radical, often Humanistic, cultural beliefs that can be difficult to pin down.
The word ‘woke’ no longer means simply the state of not being asleep, as it did in the 1800s. The political notion of ‘woke’ today centres on the idea that people need to become consciously aware of certain perceived “injustices” in society. These mainly centre on philosophical theories that assume racial inequality, and other forms of unfairness in society, are innate and systemic.
Alan Thomas explored the modern set of politically-correct beliefs which form the core of ‘woke ‘politics, and how we can respond as Christians, in his feature The ‘Woke’ agenda.
