Australia: Government promises to rethink law that could censor church teaching online

Planned new laws in Australia aimed at combatting misinformation on the internet will be revised to allow more free speech, the government has promised.

Church groups had warned that the proposals could have led to the online censorship of Christian teaching on sensitive social and moral issues.

Other free speech campaigners were likewise alarmed at the prospect of regulators deciding what is and isn’t legitimate information and opinion.
