Children aged as young as 12 will be permitted to change their legal sex under new laws proposed in Queensland, Australia.

The proposed ‘Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Bill’ has been called ‘irresponsible and dangerous’ by critics.

One of the Bill’s critics is the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), which submitted its response to the Bill.

The ACL has raised concerns that enabling people to self-identify will essentially allow people to legally falsify their birth certificate.

Writing a blog post on the ACL website, Rob Norman wrote, ‘The consequences of falsifying the facts surrounding the live birth of a person are far reaching and have serious consequences. Two glaring consequences are parental rights and women’s safety’.
