Charities have sounded an alarm internationally over rampant anti-Christian violence in India, with Christians killed, attacked, and raped and churches burned down.

Open Doors and Release International have published reports of Christians being targeted openly in the streets while local police and the military look on and do nothing.

According to Release International, soldiers have been sent in to quell the violence ‘with orders to shoot on sight to restore order’ and curfews have been imposed.

Despite these measures, the organisation added, ‘Christians have been attacked in 27 villages, sometimes in plain sight of state police and military, while mobs roamed the streets.’

Open Doors reported that approximately 70 Christians were killed and hundreds of churches razed to the ground during one recent bout of violence in the state of Manipur, north-west India.
