This book was written to fill a gap in the market: a book for freshers on church. Four chapters tackle ‘students and church’, followed by three on more general student issues. Newcombe is unafraid to challenge readers while adopting a chatty and upbeat style.
The chapters on church are the book’s strength. Newcombe makes no assumptions regarding church attendance, asking, ‘are you going to carry on?’ Such realism increases the book’s usefulness – it speaks to the churched but uncommitted right where they are.
