John J. Murray was well known in Reformed circles though his work with the Banner of Truth Trust. He was the author of many books, particularly in the area of church history and biography.
Of Highland Free Church stock, he entered subsequently the ministry of the Free Church in 1978, and served pastorates in Oban and Edinburgh. Following the sad death of his daughter Linda he wrote the booklet Behind a Frowning Providence (1990).
