Influential presbyterian pastor Dr Liam Goligher has resigned from his church in Philadelphia following the disclosure of a past police citation for personal conduct in a public park.

Reports of the citation, which occurred in 2014 and are a matter of public record, were previously unknown to Tenth Presbyterian Church. The church is part of the denomination the Presbyterian Church in America.

The church has issued a statement saying the details described in the citation give the appearance of sin and the matter has been referred to the Philadelphia Presbytery for further investigation.
