It is nearly three years since the outset of the Covid pandemic. How are we to assess what happened? In particular, was it an act of divine judgment on mankind?

Much pastoral wisdom is needed in how we respond to this question as there is plenty of opportunity for misunderstanding.

In the search for a simple answer, some adopt the following reasoning: ‘event P, affecting the group of people Q, is a judgment on sin R.’ However, this assessment is both arbitrary and ignorant.
