Sri Lanka dedication

On 14 November 2009, a church dedication service was held in the village of Virumanagar, in Muthur district, Sri Lanka.

We met to give thanks to God, for it was from under a tree in this same village that the Muthur ministry started eight years ago. We began to share the gospel and the first Hindus came to know Christ.

God opened the hearts of many people and the first church building was constructed in 2004. This was a simple wooden building with a palm leaf roof. About 50 people could gather there.

After the first baptism, hostile villagers burnt that church down, so the church members rebuilt it with concrete blocks. This new building had capacity for more than 100 people. During the recent civil war, the area was cleared of all civilians and our building was destroyed once again.

When the people returned home from refugee camps, they rebuilt the church but it soon became obvious the building was too small. By God’s grace, we got permission to start a new building in April 2009. After only seven months, the work has been completed.

It was wonderful to see about 300 people at the dedication service, praising God and giving thanks for answered prayers. Please pray for the Lord’s people in Sri Lanka and that many more will come to faith.
