Hayes Town Chapel ladies’ evening
I wonder what thoughts occur in your mind when you think of a ‘ladies’ fellowship’ group. In our church we are blessed with ladies from a broad spectrum of ages and circumstances.
Our annual meal was held on 10 November. The main church room had carefully laid tables, complete with place settings, menus and flowers; and about eighty ladies ranging in age from seventeen to the nineties sat to eat a delicious meal.
The majority were contacts from our church-based groups. There were also personal friends and family members joining with the group for the evening.
A feature that amazes many, and we appreciate greatly, is that the men of the church support this occasion either by waiting on the tables or by working hard behind the scenes washing up and fetching and carrying. We are sure that this is a witness to the Lord’s goodness.
Such an event would be incomplete without a message. This year we were grateful to Ann Benton from Guildford who came to speak to us. It was a most challenging, edifying address on wisdom.
The talk from God’s Word was under four headings – authority, humility, discrimination and reverence. It captured everybody’s attention. Ann brought the truths of the gospel alive with graphic illustrations. We give thanks to God for speaking through her so powerfully.
