The Supreme Federal Tribunal of Brazil is due to hear a case brought by trans activists who are challenging a decision to ban puberty blockers for young people.

Back in April the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine banned the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and potentially irreversible surgeries to encourage minors to live as the opposite sex.

The decision was publicly welcomed by Reem Alsalem, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, who described the resolution as consistent with international human rights and a necessary step to protect minors.
