A woman who was facing prosecution in criminal court for praying near the site of an abortion clinic has had the charges against her dropped.

But her legal situation remains unclear, and others have been arrested in similar circumstances, including a Roman Catholic priest, Father Sean Gough.

Religious liberty legal advocacy group ADF UK is seeking clarity from the courts regarding such cases.

A hearing is scheduled to take place at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 16 February.

Isabel Vaughan-Spruce was first arrested by police on 6 December 2022 for silently praying in her head in the vicinity of an abortion clinic.

A ‘buffer zone’ which bans all protests, including prayer, was in operation around the area of the clinic.
