Christians in Henan province, China, must register their details using an online app to receive approval to attend church services, according to the religious freedom charity China Aid.

The charity says that local believers must register and make an appointment through an internet application called ‘Smart Religion’, developed by the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission of Henan Province.

China Aid says the application requires religious people to select the religious venue they want to attend before booking.

Applicants must fill in personal information, including name, phone number, ID number, permanent residence, occupation, and date of birth, before they can make a reservation.
