A Christian nurse who was disciplined for declining to use the preferred gender pronouns of a convicted paedophile has won a long overdue settlement in her case.
The case centres on an incident when a prisoner was brought to hospital for treatment. He is biologically male, is held in a male prison, but identifies as a woman.
Nurse Jennifer Melle was involved in his care, and referred to the biological man as ‘Mr’. This sent the prisoner into a rage, and he used racial slurs against nurse Melle, who is black.
But it was the nurse who was reprimanded by her bosses at the NHS Trust where she was employed, and she was further disciplined for talking about her case in the media.
