The literary remains of Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones were given by the family to the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. There are not many contents – a single box, mainly letters.

The family destroyed some of the more personal material before donating to the Library. But they did not destroy one document, a rare journal that he kept in 1930, a year of great blessing in Sandfields when 100 new members were added to the church. It is about 24 pages of tiny, illegible handwriting.

I knew of it some years ago, and the Library photocopied it for me. I attempted to transcribe it but struggled, seeking the help of Pauline Cooke, a church member with me, who, as a midwife teacher, had been reading doctors’ handwriting all her working life.
