Ever since I heard Alec Motyer’s classic Bible readings on Amos in the early 1970s, I have devoured anything he wrote on the Old Testament. He continued to speak and write until the Lord called him home late last year.
As well as being a great Old Testament scholar technically, he always approached the Bible with reverence and humility as the Word of God. It is good that ‘Ten of Those’ have made available these brief, undated daily readings in the book of Deuteronomy. They will be a useful aid and guide for anyone who wants to read through and meditate upon this key Old Testament book, so clearly important to Jesus, as well as being the most quoted Old Testament book in the New Testament after Psalms and Isaiah.
The comments are brief and the book will probably not be used more than once. This is reflected in the quality and price. As with any daily Bible reading notes, they should not be used as a substitute for personal, prayerful reflection and meditation.
