Long-awaited guidance for schools on handling transgender issues has been published by the government, and has been broadly welcomed by pro-family groups as a step in the right direction.

However, some activists within the education system say they will ignore the guidance and continue to push a radical trans ideology.

The guidance, which was made public on 19 December after the ET print edition for January went to press, has only been published in draft form. A public consultation will run for twelve weeks.

Although there are many positive aspects of the guidance, it stops short of an outright ban on gender transitioning in schools, and this has angered some Tory MPs who were calling for a complete prohibition.
