India: proposed NGO laws could endanger Christian mission work

Christian mission work in India and its financial support from countries like the UK could suffer a major setback if proposed new regulations are passed by that country’s parliament, Release International has warned.

The Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment (FCRA) license is the regulated authority by which an Indian-based NGO can receive foreign funding.

But the latest proposed amendments, put to the Indian parliament in March, could, if passed, allow the government to seize all the assets of an organisation whose license has been blocked – or which has lapsed.

Indeed, the new regulations under the FCRA bill have been labelled dangerous and alarming by Christians in India.
