International picnic

On Saturday 1 September, Norwood Grove Park played host to the third annual International Picnic hosted by members of Thornton Heath Evangelical Church.
Just over 40 people, friends and members from the church, along with some of their relatives and neighbours, turned up to take part in the festivities — slightly fewer than last year, although a good time was had by all.
People brought food from their countries of origin to share. Among the countries represented were Ireland, Jamaica, France, Mexico and, of course, the UK.
Because it was in a public area, church members had some evangelistic opportunities presented to them, and were able to speak with passers-by in the park and invite them to share in the picnic.
The weather held out well — not too hot, thankfully — and later on in the afternoon it became really sunny, allowing the children to play many games, such as football.
It was a great opportunity to get to know each other better, even if some of the questions in the international quiz stumped us a little. It was good time of fellowship.
