Evangelicals are used to challenges from unbelievers regarding same-sex marriage, the diversity agenda, and plans to ban so-called ‘conversion therapy’. But are evangelical churches ready for challenges regarding sexuality from those attending and serving within them?
The evangelical Alliance have recently released three documents on sexuality: updated affirmations, a detailed commentary, and a guide summarising the commentary at a popular level. The EA guide also identifies several realistic scenarios to think through. You don’t have to agree fully with the EA affirmations (and, for the record, I don’t) to benefit greatly from the scenarios which raise the question: how would your church respond? Here are summaries of some of them.
EA scenarios
A gay couple attend church for six months with their adopted daughter. One of them responds to an appeal for volunteers to help with the Sunday School.
