King to defend ‘multi-faith  nation’ rather  than ‘the faith’

Buckingham Palace has revised its official description of the King’s constitutional role, stating that His Majesty ‘protects the space for Faith within the multi-faith nation’ while remaining Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

The new wording appears in the Sovereign Grant Report 2025–26 and replaces last year’s description of the monarch as ‘Head of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith’ under the heading of the sovereign’s official duties.
