Six Christians in northern Laos have been detained since December 2025 after local authorities arrested a group of believers who had been meeting for worship in a village.

Officials said the gatherings were unauthorised and offered to release those detained if they renounced their Christian faith. Four eventually agreed and were released, while six remain in custody.

Following negotiations, authorities reportedly offered release on payment of bail equivalent to two or three months’ average rural wages, with the condition that the group stop holding worship meetings.

There have also been separate reports of the authorities questioning and temporarily disrupting a Christian youth camp in southern Laos.
