Schools will be under a legal duty to have regard to new safeguarding guidance which says caution must be taken with young children who want to identify as a different gender.
The guidance is called ‘Keeping Children Safe In Education 2025’ and has been published by the government after a year in limbo.
The previous version contained helpful sections on handling transgender issues, but those sections were marked as ‘under review’. However, those sections are now fully included as part of the statutory guidance.
