There are moments when a society’s moral confusion is exposed in a single sentence. Following the dreadful attack at a Berlin Pride event, in which innocent people were killed and injured, a social justice activist was speaking at a vigil and reportedly lamented the identity of the attacker. According to a video posted online, she said she had hoped the perpetrator was ‘not a foreigner, but a white Christian’.
Pause and consider that. Her instinct was disappointment that the crime could not be laid at the feet of a preferred political enemy. She actually hoped it was a white Christian. In reality, the attack was carried out by 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese background. Her disappointment at that news shows just how poisonous social justice ideology has become.
She then went on to talk about the issues of ‘intersectionality’. That’s a social justice buzz word referring to the belief that society is divided into overlapping groups of oppressors and victims. According to ‘intersectionality’, a person’s moral authority and social status is determined by the combination of identities they possess rather than by their individual character or actions. Therefore, white Christians are the true oppressors, even when a Muslim man drives a van into a crowd of people.
