A shared ministry

Three evangelical churches in north-east UK have been blessed by the appointment of a shared evangelism co-ordinator, in the form of Daniel Johnson from North Shields.

In January, Mr Johnson was inducted into his new role. He will share his time between North Shields Evangelical Church (EC), where he is a member, and Swarland EC. He will also give some time to Broadmead Way EC, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

For the past few years, he had thought his path would go in the direction of becoming a pastor, but several incidents last year caused him to rethink where God was leading him.

When another church (in Wales) contacted Mr Johnson in June 2009 to consider working with them, although he did not move there, it opened the door to the present ministry. The idea of working for more than one church was explored firstly with North Shields EC and then with Swarland EC.

Ephesians 4:11 says that evangelists are given to the church to build up the saints for works of service. Aspects of the ministry include holding monthly visitor services in each church, training members in evangelism, and planning outreach events that non-Christians can attend.

As both churches are small, Daniel Johnson will continue with his ‘tent-making’ role as a guitar teacher in local schools.
