Breakaway Anglican Church

Conservative Anglicans in the US, upset by the liberal views of the Episcopal Church, have formed a new denomination. The Anglican Church in North America will include four Episcopal dioceses that recently split from the US church, and Canadian parishes who have also seceded from the Episcopalian church. It is reported that the new province represents 700 churches and 100,000 church members.

Although tensions have existed between liberals and conservatives for many years the most recent trouble began in 2003 when US Episcopalians consecrated the first openly gay bishop. The world Anglican Communion is a fellowship of churches who look to the Church of England for leadership.
