Great Whyte Baptist Church

Paul Adcock was inducted at Great Whyte Baptist Church in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, on Saturday 9 May after two years of serving the church.

The service began with the enthusiastic singing of Charles Wesley’s hymn ‘And can it be’. Peter Steward, a deacon, explained how David Woodard, an American church planter, came to the church with the intention of eventually handing over the work to a new pastor.

David returned to the USA in December 2007, leaving Paul, who had served alongside him for six months, to oversee the church. In July 2008, the church voted to call Paul to the pastorate.

Paul, raised in a Christian family, spoke of his conversion at a Sunday school anniversary at Melbourne Hall, Leicester, when the preacher spoke of Christ’s second coming. Paul assisted David Court, minister of the Church of Scotland in New Restalrig near Edinburgh before working with the Faith Mission in Cambridgeshire. Paul, asking the church to pray for him, spoke of the importance of prayer and the need of purity and perseverance.

David Woodard, Peter Steward, David Court and Gurnam Singh (pastor at Melbourne Hall) laid hands on Paul, commending him and his wife Amy, and their children Ella and Micah, to the Lord.

Preaching from Colossians 4:2-6, David Court spoke of the three priorities of the pastor and every local church – prayer, proclamation and personal witness.
