Don’t read this…

March 2016 | by John Thornbury

Don’t read this… unless you are a Christian! Seriously, I invite those who are not believers in Jesus Christ to turn their eyes in another direction — and read something else, for this is for believers only.

My Christian friend, I want to talk to you. I want to talk to you about how we should react to a world that is shaking its fist in the face of the one we love, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Day by day, if you are at school or college, or work in some public place, you probably hear Christ’s name constantly used in cursing. When you search the internet, turn on the television or read a newspaper, you are constantly exposed to anti-Christian propaganda.

You have ‘homophobic’ thrown at you, because you believe what the Bible says about sexual activity. You are taught in school that you are descended from apes, and are mocked for even suggesting there might be a God who made everything.

You read about women demanding the right to kill their unborn babies, or people demanding the right to commit suicide. And so on.

Do not get discouraged

First, I want to say to you, please do not get discouraged. Remember the Bible says that in the ‘last days’ (the time between Jesus’ resurrection and Second Coming) perilous times would come, when men would be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God (2 Timothy 3:1).

Above all, keep in mind that God has everything under control. It is God who is directing history and in the end he will be exalted. God’s Word, the Bible, will be proven right in the end. When Jesus comes, all injustice and blasphemy will be made right. Just stay faithful and keep looking up!

Second, do not be mean spirited. When Muslims hear that their ‘holy book’ has been desecrated in some way’, they call for murder and mayhem. But that is not the way our Lord commanded us to act.

Jesus himself, when he was called to go to Calvary and die for sinners, was led as a ‘lamb to the slaughter’. He ‘opened not his mouth’. Our Master commanded us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, and do good to those who hate us (Matthew 5:44).

Retribution is God’s business, not ours. As long as we are in this world, we are simply to be a witness and let our light shine. He will take care of the rest.

Thanks for letting me speak to you a little, in this way!
