International team brings the gospel to London’s Jewish Community

October 2019 | by Allen Moxham

Christian Witness to Israel (CWI) launched an outreach campaign to London’s Jewish communities in July and August. A 40-strong team from Britain, France, Holland, Hong Kong, Israel and beyond, all joined hands to reach out with the good news of the Messiah.

CWI’s presence in London dates from the 19th century. It was formerly called The British Society for the Propagation of the Gospel among the Jews. London has 185,000 Jewish residents and contains Europe’s largest population of Ultra-Orthodox.

Over the two-week period of outreach, interactive displays, music, 17,000 tracts and a dedicated website were utilised in evangelism. Over 200 copies of Matthew’s gospel or the entire New Testament were distributed. Every home in the Stamford Hill area received a gospel leaflet in English and Hebrew.

CWI missionaries and volunteers spoke face-to-face with those stopping in the street to listen. Over 400 individuals were reached, some twenty of whom were open to further dialogue. The outreach culminated in a concert featuring Jewish music and testimonies.

Despite increased anti-Semitism in the UK, Jewish people worldwide have become more open to hearing the message of Jesus the Messiah. Rev. Joseph Steinberg, CEO of CWI, said, ‘From Leeds to Paris to Jerusalem, Jewish lives are being changed as they experience for themselves the love and forgiveness that knowing Jesus brings’.

The London outreach built on this growing interest and followed previous CWI campaigns in Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Budapest.

Philip Amos, a CWI missionary based in London, led the campaign: ‘It was great to work alongside others who have a passion for sharing Jesus with Jewish people. We want the Jewish community, like every other nation on earth, to hear of the love, hope and forgiveness that Jesus offers’.
