Mr O, I’m reading a book about the great missionary to China, Hudson Taylor, and it tells me that he lived as if there were no second causes. But I don’t understand what that means.
The ‘First Cause’ is God. He reigns over everything. He is the Maker of everything that exists and the One who is behind everything that happens, but in such a way that he can never be blamed for anything evil. The Bible says that ‘of him and through him and to him are all things, to whom be glory for ever’.
So if God is the ‘First Cause’, what exactly is a ‘second cause’?
