The London Seminary family is grieving the loss of Roelof Weerstand, who died in February at the age of 43. Roelof came to London Seminary in 2019, having planted a Reformed Baptist church in his hometown of Urk in the Netherlands.
Roelof and his fellow elder Jan Schraal came to the seminary to take the Pastoral Training Course full-time and lived on site with their families. They quickly became a vital part of the seminary family and joined Kensit Church, which meets in the seminary chapel.
Roelof committed himself to his studies and developed as a preacher. When Roelof completed his seminary studies in 2021 he returned to the Netherlands and planted a new Reformed Baptist church in Emmeloord with Jan Schraal.
In April 2024, we heard the devastating news that Roelof had been diagnosed with a brain tumour which would prove to be terminal.
We cannot understand the Lord’s providence in calling home such a godly and fruitful servant so soon in his life and ministry. Roelof was much loved, and his single-minded devotion to Christ and his determination to advance the cause of the gospel in the Netherlands were remarkable. We give thanks for the life and testimony of this dear brother. While taken from us, he is now with Christ, which for him is ‘far better’.
