The House of Lords has been debating an amendment which would decriminalise women who abort their babies, even up to the point of birth.

The amendment, which was originally proposed by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, was passed by the House of Commons in June last year.

If it becomes law, the amendment would stop women from being prosecuted for procuring their own abortion in late term pregnancies.

But there was vocal opposition in the House of Lords, with several Peers giving passionate speeches to voice their concerns.
