What does it mean to be faithful? One of my favourite Bible characters is Baruch. He is an unsung hero; I suspect many Christians do not even recognise the name. Baruch is a hero because without him we would not have the book of Jeremiah nor probably Lamentations. If Baruch had not been faithful then, humanly speaking, our Bible would be two books short!
Baruch's faithfulness
How do we see the faithfulness of Baruch? We find out in Jeremiah 36 and 45. First, he diligently writes down all of Jeremiah's words. It was a simple task but called for many days' labour – yet Baruch faithfully undertook it.
Second, he bravely read out the Word of God to a hostile audience. Jeremiah asked Baruch to go to the Lord's house and read out the words of God with all its threats and judgments while surrounded by hostile people! Baruch obeyed.
