The subtitle of this book is ‘An Urgent Call to Godward Discontentment’. Thompson begins by stating that God commands us as Christians to be contented (as opposed to covetous) in the path to spiritual progress.
Yet he demonstrates that discontentment can be either a sinful vice (e.g. coveting) or it can be a spiritual virtue (if it is a God-serving desire). He states, ‘Show me a thoroughly satisfied Christian, and I will show you a spiritual failure.’
