The Irish government has highlighted ‘challenging issues’ surrounding proposals to legalise assisted suicide, saying the matter requires careful consideration of medical, ethical, cultural, and legal questions.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan said the Government had not yet decided how to respond to 38 recommendations made by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying.
