This is a sensitive time for policing in the UK. Social tensions are evident in the public outrage over the horrendous knife attack by Hadi Alodid in Belfast. And there is still a lot of public anger in response to the injustice of the Henry Nowak murder case. Under these pressures, I do not envy the ordinary bobby on the beat (they do still exist, don’t they?).
But the case of Luke Salmons, a Christian, makes it very difficult not to conclude that the woke mind-virus has infected the police very deeply indeed. If you haven’t heard, Luke Salmons was a former Police Community Support Officer who was sacked for ‘gross misconduct’ for daring to ask whether Islam was a ‘religion of peace’ during diversity training.
Five days ago, it was announced that he had won a settlement in his case against North Yorkshire Police. The facts of the case should concern everyone who values freedom of conscience, freedom of speech and the impartial administration of justice. Mr Salmons was suspended, dismissed and permanently barred from policing after questioning claims made during mandatory diversity training about Islam. According to reports, trainers repeatedly asserted that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’.
