The Evangelical Book Shop in Belfast opened in October 1926 in response to the growing influence of German Rationalism and modernism. Housed in a former home built around 1810, the shop began modestly with a couple of trestle tables; a few shelves displaying Bibles, tracts, and books; and simple advertising in the window and on the pavement.
Revd W. J. Grier, later a founding father of the Irish Evangelical Church, was appointed manager on 1 October 1926. The trustees purchased the building in 1946.
