The Supreme Court of Slovenia has upheld the result of a November 2025 assisted suicide referendum. A 53% majority of Slovenians voted against the introduction of assisted suicide.
In July 2025, the Slovenian parliament passed an assisted suicide law, but a civil society initiative against it was started, supported by the Catholic Church and the conservative parliamentary opposition.
The initiative succeeded in gathering more than 46,000 signatures required to trigger a second vote, the result of which was the decisive referendum vote last year.
